I have had a pretty intense start to my New Year. Usually getting out on my
Skateboard is therapeutical, but a few weeks ago I was trying to Backside flip
over a trashcan, a move that requires some Pop but also something that has
always come fairly easily for me. Two different sessions I felt like I lost my
pop and failed miserably. I was wondering if at 46 years old the days of
jumping over stuff was over. I had to take a step back and realize I wasn’t
really on point in taking care of myself physically and mentally. I always have
a lot going on personally and professionally, so I have to work a lot harder at
eating better, exercising, and getting good sleep if I want to be on my A-game
on and off my board.

After really trying to focus on what is important to my health, I was able
to go back and land that trick several times over that trashcan. Just as I was
feeling relieved that I still might have some more jumping years ahead of me I
got a call from my homie Brandon Turner to tell me Kobe Bryant had died in a
crash. That was a very sobering moment and a wakeup call. Once again, I was
reminded that life is short and that we can never take anything for granted.
Reflecting on the last few weeks of trying to focus on the people and things
that are important in my life I realize that I am blessed to be able to wake up
and do what I do every day.

Stay Humble & Count Your Blessings
